IDAS is the short cut for „Interactive Defence and Attack System for Submarines”. It is a missile, which can be used by submarines while driving diped. Primary it is conceptually designed for the defence of submarine hunting helicopters, but can also be used against targets as well on sea as on land. For the first time, an active self defence of an underwater diving submarine is possible. Compared to the existent missile system, IDAS is connected to the submarine with a light wave conductor. The light wave conductor is permanently broadcasting pictures to the infra-red-camera. Thereby the user has the possibility to change shortly the target or to stop the flight.

First flight attempts with IDAS at the end of the last year had been sucessfull. For the project the ARGE IDAS was founded and the spokesman is HDW.
